This collection is a fascinating look at the history and variety of theater in the mid- to late-1800s and early 1900s:

The posters showing scenes from the plays are often highly sensational and melodramatic, sometimes to point of being unintentionally funny and campy! Some are meant to be humorous, and some are downright gothic.

Famous Performers and Hit Dramas, Melodramas, and Light Operas of the Era: Uncle Tom's Cabin, HMS Pinafore, Shakespeare's plays including Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet, Ben Hur, Faust, Sherlock Holmes, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, The Raven, Evangeline, Oliver Twist, Carmen, as well as lesser known but obviously popular titles such as The Hidden Hand, The Queen of Chinatown, Arizona, At Piney Ridge, The White Slave, For Her Children's Sake, Lost in Siberia, Lost in the Desert, The Duchess of Devonshire, The Secrets of Satan, When Women Love, hundreds more!

These posters are simply fascinating to browse, and reveal much about the times in which they were created. In this collection you'll find fine examples of the printer's art ~ lovely decorative artwork on the performer's posters, and detailed tableaux on the posters for plays.
